As we walked by this hole-in-the-wall restaurant in Little India, the men working smiled and beckoned us to come in. They immediately sat us down and served us without giving us any choices. It was decided that my dad would get a beer, since he was the man, and my mom and I would get orange juice. We were all stuck with cold banana-leaf rice and never had a chance to try the roti this man was making up front.

Mama Denise was not happy.
